SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS

Meals claimed for reimbursement must meet meal pattern requirements. Meal components that are altered due to special dietary needs must have supporting documentation.

Providers are advised to check with parents to be certain that their child has tried, and had no reaction to, certain foods. Providers should request that parent's furnish a statement signed by a recognized medical authority if their child is allergic to, and should not be fed, certain foods or ingredients.

If special dietary exceptions are not documented, the meal cannot be claimed for reimbursement.
